Pedestrian and cycle routes

We heard that many station users experience issues around pedestrian safety, as well as difficulties with accessibility.

One of the key benefits of reducing vehicle access to the site is that it gives more space for safe pedestrian travel through, to and from the site.

This includes new pedestrian connections throughout the site, linking High Barnet station and Barnet Hill with new public realm and open green spaces.

By prioritising pedestrian and active travel routes, we can create an environment that is safer, cleaner and more accessible – with improved links to the Northern Line and local bus networks.

We are providing the space to expand cycle parking at the station in the future. We are also considering the provision of electric cycle parking that reflects the steepness of Barnet Hill.

Key improvements:

  • New footway along the north side of Barnet Hill
  • New route up the station approach road, including footways on both sides
  • Improved crossing on the approach road
  • New, safer crossings on Barnet Hill
