Parking

We understand that parking is an important issue for the local community. It was the single most common theme during the first round of public consultation.

Policy context

Local and London policy context dictates that well-connected sites like the area surrounding High Barnet station should have no parking spaces. In line with this policy, our proposed development would remove all of the existing car parking spaces, except blue badge and operational parking.

We understand that some of you had concerns about the impact of car parking removal on surrounding streets, particularly from commuter drivers. We’ll be working with Barnet Council as part of our legal agreement to ensure the right measures are in place to prevent any parking spillover, such as Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs).

Habits of drivers to High Barnet station

We have carried out extensive surveys to investigate the transport habits of High Barnet station. Through this, we have found:

  • Car park users account for only 8% of total daily entries to High Barnet station on an average weekday.
  • 42% of those drivers who use the car park would have a walking time of less than 30 minutes to High Barnet station.
  • 89% of those drivers who use the car park start their journey from within 500m of a bus stop that provides a journey time of less than 15 minutes to High Barnet station.

This research, coupled with policy from Barnet Council, the Greater London Authority and TfL and the need for new homes, provides the fundamental rationale for our development at High Barnet station.

Pick up and drop off

At the last consultation, we heard that dropping off and picking up family and friends from High Barnet station can be difficult and sometimes dangerous. Our designs include a dedicated drop-off/pick-up zone, to make vehicular transit to the station safer and easier for all passengers.
