Green open spaces and public realm

We heard that many of you support our plans to protect the existing woodland area, while enhancing green and public spaces.

We want to deliver an enhanced public realm that works for the community as a whole and has character and public spaces on site.

The names of these spaces are indicative, and we want them to be derived from the local context and community.

If you have any ideas, please let us know via the feedback form

Our proposals include seven distinct character areas:

1. Station Square
A simple open space, set within the woodland that provides a calming place to welcome people arriving at High Barnet station.

2. Café Square
A sheltered square with canopy cover, designed as a place to rest.

3. Barnet Yards
A linear space with places to sit with pedestrian routes leading towards Station Square and Barnet Hill Square.

4. Barnet Hill Square
A new landscaped public square that provides a visual break between the new residential buildings.

5. Railway Street
A high-quality, simply designed street that takes inspiration from the railway, featuring neighbourhood mews with greenery and planting surface inlays that subtly guides movement towards the play area.

6. Woodland Gardens
A richly planted open space, with through routes overlooked by homes.

7. Woodland Play
A destination play area with views across greenery, incorporating features of the railway.
