Parking

We understand that parking is an important issue for the local community. Our proposals will be guided by both the opportunities and constraints of the site and by relevant planning policy.

Our proposals

Within 400 metres of High Barnet Town Centre, our site is brownfield land adjacent to High Barnet station with a high Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) of 4-6a. This means it is very well connected by public transport and well suited to residential development.

The site of our development includes the current station car park. The plans will retain operational parking and blue badge parking, however as required by planning policy for well-connected sites like ours, the proposals will result in a loss of the public car parking facilities.

Improved pedestrian and cycling routes will however promote active travel and as a result, there will be a significant reduction in vehicle movements and an improvement in local air quality around the site.

Planning policy

Planning policy at local, regional and national level support the development of brownfield sites such as ours for housing delivery.

The London Plan and draft Local Plan policies also support the redevelopment of car parks to provide new homes and to encourage more people to walk, cycle and take public transport in line with the Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy. The London Plan (Policy H1) supports the redevelopment of brownfield sites close to stations and town centres for residential development, while Policy D3 supports a design led approach to optimising site capacity, respecting the local character, context and capacity for growth whilst seeking the best use of land.

As such, there is a strong planning case for the redevelopment of our site to provide new residential development, which optimises the capacity of the site, delivers affordable housing, reduces car parking provision and preserves and enhances the existing biodiversity on the site.
